I freely confess that I believe in a personal, creator God who made all things, according to His own wisdom and power. Setting aside Biblical prophecy and what is termed "anecdotal evidence" for the time being, there are inconsistencies in the atheistic claim that I give the opportunity for atheists to address. I must admit that I expect irrational commentary and the response "no it isn't" in all it's various forms minus explanation, and so I ask the atheist a simple question:
Do you disbelieve in God because you say there is no evidence, or do you disbelieve in God because you do not want to believe the evidence that there is? I challenge the atheist to answer that question, truthfully.
I will be drawing heavily upon the work of Ray Comfort, "How To Know God Exists", and his sources.
"According to a 2007 Newsweek poll, 91 percent of US adults say the believe in God. What do they see that Joe (the atheist/agnostic) doesn't? Are they all imagining a Creator who isn't there? Are the 3 percent of Americans who claim to be atheist just smarter than most people...or are they missing some obvious evidence?
An atheist is defined as someone who believes there is no God. Since it isn't possible to prove scientifically that something doesn't exist, atheists cannot know there is no God. Their view is just a belief based on lack of evidence. However, believing that there is no God does not mean that there isn't one. If there is a God, your eternity rests on your belief, so it's vital that you back it up with verifiable facts." (Ray Comfort, How To Know God Exists; Bridge-Logos, Alachua, Florida) pg 12 (Newsweek article; Brian Braier's "God's Numbers", March 31, 2007; <www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17879317/site/newsweek>)
1) The Big Bang
Science declares that what cannot be observable and repeatable is not real. So, how come the Big Bang? Who saw it? The same can be said concerning the advent of life on earth. How did it happen? A primordial soup? How come it is not happening still? Why is the Big Bang not happening anywhere in the seeable universe? You might say that the things that occurred first were, of course, not observable, nor could be for no observer was yet present, yet they still happened. Then why are they not happening today, and seem to be only one-time events? Would that not therefore, render them unreal? Yet here we are. And as I've offered so many times...we see evidence that something happened, even though it cannot be repeated and was not witnessed. Could we not be seeing the mechanism by which God formed the world? Further, are not fanciful embellishments added to the evidence, by which those who reject that God created the universe and the world, try to prove that they are right?
2) How did Mount Rushmore come into being? Wind and sand, water, freezing-thawing over time, and suddenly, someone looked up and there's Thomas Jefferson? Of course not. It's silly to think that the faces of the Presidents on Mount Rushmore were spontaneously formed without being chiseled and fashioned by man. And that's Mount Rushmore. Yet atheists declare that the miracle of birth, the human eye, the genetic code, all were the product of random, spontaneous formation all on it's own.
Again, suppose you find a cylindrical object, sealed at both ends, with a teardrop shaped hole in one end. There are red swirls on the object, with the letters COKE in bold black print. Do you think this object formed on it's own, after millions of years? Of course not. It had a maker, with a purpose. Humans are much, much more intricate and specialized than a coke can, and how can people then believe that there was no intelligent design and creation in the universe, that mankind was formed by chance combinations with enough time?
The analogies are endless. The simple fact is that we see material objects that are made, and all have a maker. For all there is in the world, how is it then that some declare that the universe and the world have no maker...that we have no maker...we, the world and the universe, infinitely more complex than a coke can or Mount Rushmore, a fine automobile, skyscrapers, computers, and all?
"...this is exactly what atheists claim; something can bring itself into being from nothing and with enough time, complex systems can be assembled by chance through random, unguided processes. We intuitively know when something is designed, and we know that things don't design and create themselves. For some reason, we understand this logic for every subject except our incredible creation - with it's amazing design, complexity, beauty and order. That just doesn't make sense." (Ray Comfort, How To Know God Exists; ) pg 15
3) Absence of transitional fossils
There are no transitional fossils. No half fish-half bird, or half bird-half reptile. If evolution is true, why does the fossil record not bear it out? We have had a very long time to find fossils, and yet there are no transitional fossils that support evolutionary theory of transitional change, yet the theory of evolution is being taught as truth throughout America. Evolution is perhaps the greatest hoax foisted upon the world to date.
4) No mutation has proven beneficial to the organism.
Atheistic science puts forth the belief that specific mutations account for specialization in nature. The mutations we have observed, and have come to understand cause illnesses like cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, Fibromyalgia, and so on. How then can atheistic science believe that mutations caused fish to be able to breathe underwater through gills, or birds change from reptiles that crawl to birds that can fly? There is no such evidence that mutations are beneficial to the organisms, but rather detrimental to the organism.
5) Creative intelligence and First Cause.
Atheistic science declares that there was no intelligence behind the creation of the world. No "mind". So, then we can remove the brain from a human, and expect that human to then create a cow, a tree, a fish. Okay, Leave the brain in. The human still cannot create a cow, a tree, a fish. Suppose one day, science is able to bring about a reaction in a lab that might even remotely be considered "life". From where did the materials come for the experiment? The question of First Cause has never been satisfactorily answered by atheistic science...satisfactory to anyone with an open mind.
"There is not a shred of objective evidence to support the hypothesis that life began in an organic soup here on the earth...so why do biologists indulge in unsubstantiated fantasies in order to deny what is so patently obvious, that the 200,000 amino acid chains, and hence life, did not appear by chance?" ~ Frederic Hoyle (Quoted by Ray Comfort, "How to Know God Exists", pg 70-71)
Consider the human eye:
"The eye is an example of what is referred to as 'irreducible complexity'. It would be absolutely impossible for random processes, operating through gradual mechanisms of genetic mutation and natural selection, to be able to create forty separate subsystems when they provide no advantage to the whole until the very last state of development. Ask yourself how the lens, the retina, the optic nerve, and all other parts in vertebrates that play a role in seeing not only appeared from nothing, but evolved into interrelated and working parts. Evolutionist Robert Jastrow acknowledges that highly trained scientists could not have improved upon 'blind chance':" (Ray Comfort, "How to Know God Exists") pg 21
"The eye appears to have been designed; no designer of telescopes could have done better. How could this marvelous instrument have evolved by chance, through a succession of random events? Many people in Darwin's day agreed with theologian William Pauley, who commented 'There cannot be a design without a Designer.'" (Robert Jastrow, "Evolution; Selection for Perfection." Science Digest, December 1981) pg 86.(Quoted by Ray Comfort, "How to Know God Exists"; pg 21)
And this is just the eye. What of the heart, the genetic code, the ear, the nose. To echo the Psalmist, "I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made". (Psalm 139:14)
6) Thermodynamics and Entropy
In a simple explanation, Entropy is the definition of order moving to chaos in a closed system. This includes complex moving to simple, and explains how the corruption of the world is an ongoing, increasing process. In that Entropy is a natural, observable, repeatable law, it must be considered real and true by science. Therefore, how can organisms go from simple to complex, in violation of this law? Clearly, they cannot. And if they cannot, then all organisms began as highly complex, and did not develop over billions of years into the complex organisms they are today. And if they began as highly complex organisms, how did they come about?
In science, "No theory is considered absolute truth." (Kenneth Miller, Ph.D. and Joseph Levine, Ph.D., Biology; Upper Saddle River, NJ; Prentice Hall, 2002) pg 15
Higher and higher pile up the issues with atheistic beliefs. This world, creation, even our selves, reveal intelligent design. That such fantastic constructs could come from random accumulations and mutations is not only farfetched, but unbelievable to the extreme! So, what does this say of the atheist? Remember the question I asked at the beginning?
Do you disbelieve in God because you say there is no evidence, or do you disbelieve in God because you do not want to believe the evidence that there is?
I understand that there could come a great cost by laying down the atheistic beliefs and embracing the belief in a Creator. Which cost is greater? Admitting that you were wrong, alienating all your friends and co-workers and people who agree with your atheistic beliefs, and finding yourself to be on the outside where you were once, in? Or is it a greater cost that you stick to your guns, believe beyond all evidence that life began as an organic soup and come one day to find yourself standing before a Creator, facing eternity after a lifetime of disbelief and rejection of Him?
"Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle, and tender in heart, and you will find rest for your souls; for My yoke is easy, and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30, quoting Jesus)
He doesn't hate you, and He's not angry with you. He beckons you to come to Him, be washed clean, be made new by a way He Himself provided. Give Him your life and find new life. You could point to people who do wrong while declaring they are Christians as the reason for your rejection, but will you allow others to keep you from believing the truth? And do you not realize that if He got rid of all evil in the world, including evil people, that would include all of us as well, and you? Our time on earth is short, and Judgment is coming. The stakes are too high to reject the truth. I urge those who disbelieve...seek out the person of Jesus Christ. May He guide you to Himself.
